A Statistical Analysis of the Galaxy Populations of Distant Luminous X-ray Clusters
We present a deep, multi-colour (UBI) CCD survey using the Palomar 5-m telescope of a sample of high X-ray luminosity, distant clusters selected from the ROSAT All-Sky Survey. The 10 clusters lie in redshift range z = 0.22–0.28, an era where evolutionary effects have been reported in the properties of cluster galaxy populations. Our clusters thus provide a well-defined sample of the most massiv...
متن کاملThe Origin of the Spatial Distribution of X-ray Luminous Agn in Massive Galaxy Clusters
We study the spatial distribution of a 95% complete sample of 508 X-ray point sources (XPS) detected in the 0.5–2.0 keV band in Chandra ACIS-I observations of 51 massive galaxy clusters found in the MACS survey. Covering the redshift range z = 0.3 − 0.7, our cluster sample is statistically complete and comprises all MACS clusters with X-ray luminosities in excess of 4.5 × 10 erg s (0.1–2.4 keV,...
متن کاملA CFH12k Lensing Survey of X-ray Luminous Galaxy Clusters I: Weak Lensing Methodology
We present the weak lensing methodology applied to our multi-colour imaging survey of X-ray luminous galaxy clusters conducted with the wide field CFH12k camera. This method, which is converting a fully reduced CFH12k image into cluster mass constraints, is done in two steps that we explain in detail: (1) determination of the ”true” shape of faint (lensed) galaxies which involves: object detect...
متن کاملA Hubble Space Telescope Survey of X-ray Luminous Galaxy Clusters: Gravitationally Lensed Arcs and EROs
We are conducting a systematic lensing survey of X-ray luminous galaxy clusters at z ∼ 0.2 using the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and large ground-based telescopes. We summarize initial results from our survey, including a measurement of the inner slope of the mass profile of A 383, and a search for gravitationally lensed Extremely Red Objects.
